Prisons, Policing, and the Feminist Fight to End Violence Against Women and Gender
Violence against women and gender non-conforming people is a global pandemic. In the United States, one in four women will experience sexual violence in her lifetime, and one in three will experience physical violence by an intimate partner. Transgender people are at even greater risk of violence, with transgender women of color being particularly vulnerable.

Prisons and policing play a significant role in perpetuating violence against women and gender non-conforming people. The vast majority of people in prison are men, and many of them have been convicted of violent crimes against women. In addition, the prison system itself is often a site of violence, with women and gender non-conforming people being disproportionately subjected to sexual abuse and other forms of mistreatment.
Policing also plays a role in perpetuating violence against women and gender non-conforming people. Police officers are often the first responders to reports of domestic violence and sexual assault, and their response can have a significant impact on the victim's experience. Unfortunately, police officers are often not trained to handle these cases effectively, and they may even perpetuate the violence themselves.
The feminist movement has long recognized the role of prisons and policing in perpetuating violence against women and gender non-conforming people. Feminists have called for the abolition of prisons and policing, and for the development of alternative approaches to safety and justice that do not rely on violence.
This book examines the role of prisons and policing in perpetuating violence against women and gender non-conforming people, and explores feminist strategies for transformative change. The book brings together a diverse group of scholars, activists, and practitioners to provide a comprehensive analysis of this critical issue.
The book is divided into three parts. The first part examines the role of prisons in perpetuating violence against women and gender non-conforming people. The second part examines the role of policing in perpetuating violence against women and gender non-conforming people. The third part explores feminist strategies for transformative change.
This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in understanding the role of prisons and policing in perpetuating violence against women and gender non-conforming people, and in developing feminist strategies for transformative change.
